The leadership of Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, should be well known to Allman Brothers fans for their stint in Southern rock's most celebrated native sons. In 1989 Haynes became the secondment replacement for Duane Allman, providing a good foil for Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts on guitar and vocals; Woody filled out the Allman healthy on bass part. Home & Away star in serious accident

It has emerged that 'Home & Away' star Todd Lasance was involved in a serious automobile accident concluding weekend.

According to the Melbourne Herald Sun, the 23-year-old actor, world Health Organization plays trouble maker Aden Jefferies in the soap, suffered head injuries when his Toyota Supra collided with a Honda Civic last-place Sunday.

The actor and his 21-year-old female passenger reportedly had to be freed from the car later the break apart, as was the 80-year-old driver of the early car.

Lasance was treated at a hospital in Sydney and later released.

Inspector Bob Bell told Confidential: "The driver of the Toyota suffered bruising and irritation to his chest and minor cuts to his hand, while the rider was reportedly in a serious condition."

A spokesperson for Australia's Seven network aforementioned: "Todd is fine and back at work on the 'Home and Away' set this week."

They call me Mr Tibbs - Stampede performer

A builder from Lower Hutt has his wife to thank for becoming the first New Zealander to play guitar and yodel at the world's largest rodeo festival.

Roger Tibbs has been invited to next month's Calgary Stampede, the biggest outdoor event in Canada and the world's largest rodeo event.

More than 1.2 million people attended the stampede last year and more than a million are expected this year, many of them to see acts like American singer-songwriter James Taylor, British/Kiwi pop singer Natasha Bedingfield and American country duo The Judds.

Mr Tibbs has performed for audiences of 2500 in Australia, where he became the only New Zealand man to win a Tamworth Gold Guitar award, but up to 10,000 could see him play in Calgary.

Mr Tibbs, 49, and wife Denise were already going to Canada for the stampede in July, but Mrs Tibbs secretly e-mailed the organisers to see if they would be interested in having her renowned guitarist and yodeller husband play.

"I knew we were going up there so I thought, I'll be cheeky and send an e-mail. I didn't tell Rog at that time because I thought if I didn't get a reply, it wouldn't hurt him," she said.

But when she got an interested response, she told him what she had done and they sent off some of his recordings for consideration.

"In May, I opened up my e-mails and it was from the coordinator of the stampede, asking me if we'd like to be part of it. Then I was just leaping up like a lunatic."

Mr Tibbs will play a half-hour set of Canadian covers, "just to be in vogue up there, plus a couple of yodelling songs which is what I do".

Eurovision contest voting is no laughing matter, says Wogan

Showbusiness stars and politicians yesterday joined Sir Terry Wogan's attack on the integrity of the Eurovision song contest after Russia romped home thanks to bloc voting from its near-neighbours. Wogan is threatening not to commentate on the show again and is suggesting that a musical iron curtain may fall on the competition, with western European countries breaking away from their eastern rivals.

Arriving back at Heathrow from Belgrade, where the 53rd contest was staged, Wogan said: "You have various blocs voting. We've got nobody to vote for us.












"I think the British music industry and the BBC really have to look at this and see how they can avoid this yearly debacle. At the very beginning of the year I said Russia would win for political reasons and they did."

He said Russia had "begun to be a bit bearish again" and added: "I think the former countries of the USSR are feeling a little nervous. The voting used to be about the songs. Now it's about national prejudices. We are on our own. We had a very good song, a very good singer. We came joint last. I don't want to be presiding over another debacle." Fellow stars backed Wogan, who has been involved in what some see as an annual cringefest since the 1970s. Bruce Forsyth said: "It's not a song contest any more, it's political. It's all so biased, it's developed into a farce. I've stopped watching it." Asked about Wogan's role in the show, he said: "As long as they don't ask me to do it, I don't care." Pop svengali Simon Cowell said: "If people enjoy it as entertainment, that's great, but it's all a bit empty and meaningless as a competition."

Public relations expert Max Clifford added: "It's like having a World Cup where the results are worked out in political terms and it's got nothing to do with who scores the most goals."

The Liberal Democrat MP Richard Younger-Ross has tabled a Commons motion condemning the voting as "a joke". He said: "It is clear that the voting system is based on countries either supporting their friends or not voting for those they dislike. The BBC is one of the four main funders of the competition, and should withdraw their contribution until a time when there is a fair voting system."

The BBC was not commenting on Wogan's remarks or the calls for it to withdraw its funding yesterday. But it is very unlikely to pull the plug on the contest, after revealing that 9.3 million viewers tuned in on Saturday night - an audience share of just under 50%.

Wogan's wry commentary is a highlight of the BBC's coverage but his irony turned to barely disguised anger as eastern European, Iberian and Nordic neighbours voted for each other. The Russian entry, Dima Bilan, accompanied by a manic fiddle player and an Olympic champion figure skater who pirouetted around the stage, won comfortably.

As it became clear that the British entry, Even If, by former dustman Andy Abraham, was going to finish joint last, Wogan said: "I'm afraid nobody loves the United Kingdom ... is it funny any more?"

Later he suggested it had been common knowledge that Russia was going to win. "The word went out it was Russia's turn," said Wogan.

When Ukraine awarded Russia the maximum 12 points, Wogan commented: "Ukraine want to be absolutely sure that the electricity and the oil flows through." As Latvia did the same he said it knew which side its bread was buttered on. Over the closing titles he said it could be "goodnight western Europe".

Naturally, the Russians were delighted. The prime minister, Vladimir Putin, sent the victor a telegram, calling the win "one more important triumph for all of Russia".

Friends and neighbours

· Russia won thanks largely to loyal voting from former Soviet republics. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia all awarded it the maximum 12 points. Ukraine came second, helped by Russia, which awarded it eight points.

· Others, such as the Nordic countries, also stuck together. Denmark was the most loyal, giving eight points to Sweden, 10 to Norway and 12 to Iceland. Iceland repaid the compliment, awarding Denmark 12 points and Norway 10.

· Andorra faithfully gave Spain 12 points and Portugal 10. Spain gave eight to Portugal.

· The UK picked up only 14 points - eight from Ireland, six from San Marino. The UK gave 12 points to Greece, 10 to Latvia, eight to Turkey - but none to Russia.

As one of the nearly traditional pop bands of the new wafture, Squeeze provided one of the golf links between classic British guitar pop and post-punk. bergenPAC Sees Major Leap in Fundraising, Nears Goal of Reaching $1 Million by June 30

Performing Arts Center Needs $316,000 to Secure Matching Grant, Calls Upon
Supporters to Help Push Fundraising Drive 'Over the Top'

ENGLEWOOD, N.J., June 19 -- Through a tremendous
outpouring of support from its patrons and the local community, bergenPAC
announced today that it has raised $700,000 as part of a Capital Endowment
Campaign to ensure its long-term financial stability. As it nears its goal
of securing $1 million by June 30, the performing arts center has called
upon its friends and supporters to help push its fundraising campaign "over
the top."

"Backed by the incredible support of our friends and patrons, we've
seen a huge leap in fundraising. We're now in striking distance of our goal
and the next week will be crucial as we work to preserve the long-term
future of bergenPAC," said Frank Huttle III, bergenPAC Chairman of the
Board.

To complete phase two of its three-year growth plan, bergenPAC needs to
raise $1 million by June 30, which will trigger a matching grant from The
Russell Berrie Foundation -- which doubles the value of every gift to the
endowment before June 1. The success of the Capital Endowment Campaign
would set a strong financial foundation that would ensure bergenPAC's
long-term stability and support its mission of bringing cultural enrichment
to Bergen County and making art education and live performing arts
accessible to the entire community.

Bolstered by the support of the performing art center's friends and
patrons, bergenPAC's Capital Endowment Campaign has raised $700,000 over
the course of several weeks:

Former Go-Between Robert Forster tells Russell Baillie about how his late bandmate helped inspire a new album
It was going to be their 10th album together, their fourth since reforming the musical partnership which had driven indie band the Go-Betweens from Brisbane to international acclaim through the 80s, only to founder when they thought their dash was done.But the new album by Go-Betweens Robert Forster and Grant McLennan is not a Go-Betweens record.McLennan died of a heart attack on May 6, 2006. He was 48. When he died he and Forster were two months and eight songs into the new album.Instead, the result is a new Forster solo album titled The Evangelist.But if you know the Go-Betweens' folky, literate, gentle music - and the differing trademarks of the band's two songwriters - it's disconcerting, poignant listening. Especially when Forster's erudite voice sings airy melodies that are identifiably McLennan's - and especially when he sings lyrics identifiably about McLennan.On the upbeat It Ain't Easy, Forster eulogises his musical partner: "I write these words to his tune he wrote on a full moon. And a river ran, and a train ran, and a dream ran through everything that he did."




That song was one of three on the album - with Let Your Light in Babe and Demon Days ("one of the best four or five he'd ever written") - that McLennan had originated and Forster says he completed after his passing.He had occasionally written lyrics to his partner's melodies before.But this time It Ain't Easy became the song that punctuates the end of the Go-Betweens. He thinks McLennan would be pleased with the results."Obviously in there, there are things which would amuse him that was also part of our friendship, and on the likes of It Ain't Easy to put in a portrait of him and enshrine him in a way in a pop song, he would find amusing and good."Let Your Light In Babe he would find good and humorous, and Demon Days is hard - it's a song of great earnestness and I can only hope he liked what I did there."On It Ain't Easy, Go-Betweens trainspotters might recall that locomotives were forever steaming through McLennan's songs. There was a good reason for that, says Forster."Where he died he was living beside a train track. I remember when we played guitar in front of his little shack that he had, trains would go by while we were outside playing guitar. So it's quite real."And while recording the album in London with Mark Wallis, who produced the Go-Betweens 80s swansong classic 16 Lovers Lane, Forster set up a space for his absent friend in the studio."Grant's ghost was there, but there weren't too many sad moments," Forster wrote in a piece for Britain's Sunday Times. "His amp was set up and a guitar of his stood on a stand. We all had to work a bit faster because Grant's turn to sing or play never came around."

Madonna - Ting Tings End Madonnas Chart Reign

The Ting Tings have taken the top spot in the singles chart, ending Madonna's four weeks at the top.

Their track That's Not My Name also denied Rihanna another number one, with Take A Bow coming in at number two. Madonna's 4 Minutes slipped two places to three.

Will I Am's Heartbreaker and Wearing My Rolex by Wiley completed the top five in the singles charts.

In the album chart it was Neil Diamond who returned to the top with Home Before Dark, straight in at number one.

Last week's top album, Jumping All Over The World from Scooter, was down a couple of places to number three with In Silico by Pendulum straight in at two.

Ol' Blue Eyes made a return to the top ten with Nothing But The Best at ten, while Jay Sean was new at six with My Own Way.

Flight of the Conchords, the BBC3 New Zealand comedy duo, did not repeat their US success on this side of the Atlantic. Their self-titled album was a new entry at number 33.
